Overcoming Performance Anxiety: The Power of Affirmations for Performers

Whether you're a musician, actor, athlete, or public speaker, the fear of failure can be overwhelming. One technique that has proven effective for many performers is the use of affirmations.

Affirmations are positive statements that you repeat to yourself, either out loud or in your mind. They can help you shift your mindset from one of fear and self-doubt to one of confidence and self-assurance. When used regularly, affirmations can help reprogram your subconscious mind so that you begin to believe in your abilities and feel more comfortable when performing.

By repeating these affirmations before and during your performance, you can calm your nerves and focus on your strengths rather than your fears. Over time, you may find that performance anxiety becomes less of an issue, and you feel more empowered and in control when you take the stage.

Remember, affirmations are just one tool in your arsenal for managing performance anxiety! Be sure to also practice deep breathing, visualization, and other relaxation techniques to help you stay calm and centred before and during your performance.

Take a few deep breaths, and visualise yourself having a great show/audition/class.

In your own time repeat these affirmations, taking time to let the words soak into your mind. Take this a set further and visualise each and every affirmation as it relates to you; make it as personal as you can. See yourself calm and walking into the room with full confidence, see yourself in control but relaxed in your performance.

  15. I am grateful for the support of my loved ones.
